Trial and licensing
How the 30-day trial of SQLTreeo Job Timeline works, what stays free afterwards, and how to activate a purchased license key.
The trial
The first start on a computer creates a 30-day trial. During the trial every feature is available, for any number of servers. The trial is available once per computer and cannot be extended or copied. With a roaming profile the trial comes along to the next computer and keeps its end date.
After the trial the application stays usable without a license key, as the free edition:
| Without a license key | With a license key | |
|---|---|---|
| Servers that are read | Up to three | Any number |
| Every view, the shared filter, the history archive and the diagnostics report | Yes | Yes |
| Add a fourth server | Asks for a license key | Yes |
| Add many servers | Asks for a license key | Yes |
| Support | No | Yes |
Nothing is removed when the trial ends. The first three ticked servers are read, counted in the order in which the servers were added. Servers beyond the third that you added during the trial stay in the server list, marked as needing a license, and are not read. You choose which three are read by ticking and unticking servers in the list. In the free edition a server that is not ticked is not read and shows no numbers. With a valid license key every server is read again.
The app tells you where you stand:
- The first start explains what the trial includes and what is left after it.
- Settings → License shows the days left and what changes afterwards.
- In the last 7 days of the trial a banner appears, with buttons to enter a license key or buy one.
- After the trial a banner appears when servers are left unread.
- An action that needs a license explains itself and offers the same two buttons.
Buy a license key
A license key costs $99 per named user, for one year. Buy it with the Buy now button on the SQLTreeo Job Timeline product page. The Buy a license buttons in the application open that page. A purchased key is sent to the email address used at checkout.
Activate a license key
- Open Settings → License. Settings open with the gear button at the bottom of the server list.
- Paste the key into the License key box. A key looks like
12345678-1234-1234-1234-123456789abc. - Press Verify and activate.
The key is verified online with the SQLTreeo license service: at every start, and once a day while the application stays open. Verified keys keep working for 30 days without a connection. A key that could not be verified again for longer than that is shown as not verified, with a banner, until the next successful verification; it keeps working until the end of its term. A freshly entered key that cannot be verified is accepted for 3 days. A key that is rejected does not end a trial that is still running. A license key of another SQLTreeo product is not a license for SQLTreeo Job Timeline.
After activation the License card shows who the key is licensed to, until when it is valid and when it was last verified. Remove key takes the key off this computer; the trial applies again when it still has days left.
During verification the application sends the license key, the computer name, the name of the licensee and the application version; the license service also sees the IP address of the connection. Nothing about your servers or jobs is sent, see Permissions and what is read.
Named users
Each license key is personal to one named user, who may install and activate SQLTreeo Job Timeline on up to three computers that are mainly used by that person. A key may not be shared by several people. A key may be reassigned to another person once every 30 days, for example when a colleague leaves.
Term and renewal
A license key is valid for a term of one year. Updates published during the term are included. In the last 7 days of the term a banner says when the license ends and offers renewal.
When a term ends and is not renewed, a banner says that the license has expired and the application becomes the free edition, as after the trial: up to three servers are read. Your settings, the server list and the history archive on your computer are not affected.
The full terms are in the SQLTreeo Job Timeline end-user license agreement.
