Licensing and the free preview
SQLTreeo Restore has no trial: looking at backups is free, export and copy write 1,000 rows per table until you enter a license key.
No trial, free to look
SQLTreeo Restore has no trial period and no time limit. Without a license key you can open backups and look at everything in them: the backup sets, the database files, the tables with their rows and sizes, the columns, and the data preview of a table.
What a license key adds
Exporting and copying data is what a license key is for. Without one, Export to CSV and Copy to SQL Server still work, as a preview of the first 1,000 rows of each table, with their exact values:

The preview is marked so that it is not mistaken for the real thing:
- CSV files are named like
dbo.Orders (first 1000 rows - unlicensed).csv. - Copied tables get the suffix
_preview, for exampledbo.Orders_preview. - The message after the export or copy says how many rows of how many were written, for example “1,000 of 8,412,905 rows exported (unlicensed preview)”.
Enter a license key
Open Settings › License, paste the key and choose Verify and activate. You can get there from the start page and from the Not licensed - free preview banner as well. The start page then shows the license status, and Remove key takes the key off this computer again.
The key is checked online with the SQLTreeo license service. A verified key keeps working for 30 days without a connection to the service.
A license key is for one person, who may use it on up to three computers that this person mainly uses. It cannot be shared between people. The license agreement has the details.
What is sent for the check
Verifying a key sends the key, the computer name, the version of SQLTreeo Restore and the IP address of the connection. Backup files, database contents, certificates, passwords and exported data are never sent.
