SQLTreeo Restore end-user license agreement
SQLTreeo Restore end-user license agreement
Version 1.0, 16 October 2026
This End-User License Agreement (“Agreement”) is a legal agreement between you (an individual or a single legal entity, “you”) and Databaseonline, Roosendaal, the Netherlands, trading as SQLTreeo, www.sqltreeo.com (“SQLTreeo”, “we”) for the SQLTreeo Restore software, consisting of the SQLTreeo Restore desktop application, the sqlrestore command line tool, related documentation and any updates SQLTreeo makes available (together the “Software”). The Software reads SQL Server backup files without a SQL Server, shows what they contain, and exports chosen tables to files or copies them into a SQL Server database.
By installing, copying or using the Software you accept this Agreement. If you do not accept it, do not install or use the Software.
1. Definitions
“License Key” means the key issued by SQLTreeo after purchase that unlocks the paid features of the Software. “Named User” means one individual person who is authorised by you to use the Software under a License Key. “Term” means the period of use purchased for a License Key, as shown at purchase and inside the Software. “Free Use” means the use of the Software without a License Key described in section 2. “Backup Files” means the SQL Server backup files and any certificates, private key files and passwords that you open with or provide to the Software. “General Terms” means the SQLTreeo General Terms and Conditions published at https://www.sqltreeo.com/termsandconditions/.
2. Free use without a License Key
2.1 There is no trial period. Without a License Key the desktop application may be used free of charge to open Backup Files and view their backup sets, database files, tables, columns and rows on screen. 2.2 For the purpose of evaluating the Software, the desktop application may without a License Key also export tables to files and copy tables into a SQL Server database, limited to the first 1,000 rows of each table. Files and tables written this way are marked as an unlicensed preview in their file or table name. Removing or circumventing that limit or that marking is not permitted. 2.3 Exporting or copying more than the first 1,000 rows of a table, copying data out of the Software (for example to the clipboard), and any use of the command line tool apart from its commands that only describe a backup file, require a License Key. 2.4 The Software is provided for Free Use “as is”, without any support or warranty obligation.
3. License grant
3.1 Upon payment of the applicable fee SQLTreeo grants you, for the Term, a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to install and use the Software for the number of Named Users you have purchased. 3.2 Each License Key is personal to one Named User. That Named User may install and activate the Software on up to three (3) computers that are mainly used by that person. A License Key may not be shared by several people. Use of the command line tool on a build, automation or shared server requires a License Key for each such server. 3.3 You may reassign a License Key to another Named User no more than once every 30 days, for example when an employee leaves. Simultaneous use by more than one person per License Key is not allowed. 3.4 The Software is licensed, not sold. SQLTreeo and its licensors retain all rights not expressly granted in this Agreement.
4. Term, renewal and expiry
4.1 A License Key is valid for the Term. Before the Term ends the Software informs you and offers renewal. 4.2 When the Term ends and is not renewed, the paid features stop working and the Software reverts to the free features described in section 2.3. Your Backup Files, exported files, settings and the databases you copied data into remain yours and are not affected. 4.3 Updates published during the Term are included in the license. The current version of this Agreement applies to each update; if an update comes with a changed Agreement, you accept the change by installing it. 4.4 SQLTreeo may deactivate a License Key that was obtained fraudulently, charged back, shared in breach of this Agreement or used to circumvent the license verification.
5. Restrictions
You may not, and may not allow others to: (a) copy the Software except for a reasonable number of backup copies; (b) distribute, sell, rent, lease, lend, sublicense or otherwise make the Software or a License Key available to third parties, or offer the Software as a service to third parties; (c) modify, translate, adapt or create derivative works of the Software; (d) reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Software, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits this despite this limitation; (e) remove, hide or alter any copyright, trademark or other proprietary notice in the Software; (f) bypass, disable or tamper with the license verification, the limits of Free Use or the update mechanism; (g) use the Software in breach of applicable law or of the rights of third parties, including to read Backup Files you are not entitled to read.
6. License verification and updates
6.1 The Software verifies a License Key online with the SQLTreeo license service. During verification the Software transmits the License Key, the name entered as licensee, the computer name, the Software version and the IP address of the connection. Verified keys keep working for 30 days without a connection; a key that cannot be verified for a longer period is treated as unverified until the next successful verification. 6.2 The Software checks for updates at startup and periodically while it runs, by contacting the SQLTreeo Restore release feed. Only the request needed to read the list of releases is made. Automatic update checks can be switched off in the settings of the Software. 6.3 No Backup Files, database contents, connection details, certificates, passwords or exported data are ever transmitted to SQLTreeo. Backup Files are read on your computer only. Connection details and the locations of certificate files stay on your computer; passwords you choose to save are encrypted with Windows Data Protection for your user account.
7. Backup files, your data and your responsibilities
7.1 The Software reads the Backup Files that you choose and provide. It does not change them. You are solely responsible for having the right to open, read, export and copy the data contained in the Backup Files, and for any certificate, private key or password you use with the Software. 7.2 Backup Files can contain personal data and other confidential information. You are the controller of that data within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation and other data protection law, and you are responsible for handling it lawfully, including for the files you export and the databases you copy data into, for securing them, and for deleting them when they are no longer needed. SQLTreeo does not process that data on your behalf. 7.3 The format of SQL Server backup files is not publicly documented by Microsoft. SQLTreeo does not warrant that every Backup File can be read, that every table, data type or storage feature is supported, or that data read from a Backup File is complete and correct in every case. The Software tells you when it recognises that something cannot be read, but it may not recognise every such case. 7.4 You must verify restored data (exported files and tables copied into a database) before relying on it, for example by comparing row counts and sample data with the source, and keep the original Backup Files. Where the correctness of the data is critical, restore the backup with SQL Server itself. 7.5 When you copy tables into a SQL Server database, the Software creates tables and writes rows, and on your instruction empties existing tables before writing. You are responsible for choosing the target, for the permissions you use, for making backups of the target before you write into it and for the consequences of changes made to your systems. 7.6 You are responsible for complying with the license terms of Microsoft SQL Server and with any law or agreement that applies to the data in the Backup Files. Files and data you create with the Software are yours.
8. Intellectual property
The Software is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws and treaties. All intellectual property rights in the Software, including all copies, modifications and updates, belong to SQLTreeo and its licensors. Section 6 of the General Terms applies.
9. Third-party components
The Software contains open-source components that are licensed under their own terms, which are listed in the file THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt distributed with the Software and shown under Settings, About. Those terms apply to the respective components only; they do not extend to the Software as a whole.
10. Support
Support for licensed Named Users is provided during the Term through the support channels published on www.sqltreeo.com. SQLTreeo will make reasonable efforts to correct material defects that are reported and can be reproduced, but does not guarantee that every defect can or will be corrected, or when. SQLTreeo may ask for information about a Backup File that cannot be read; you decide whether to share any of it, and you never have to share a Backup File itself.
11. Warranty disclaimer
11.1 To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law the Software is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, accuracy and non-infringement. 11.2 SQLTreeo does not warrant that the Software is error-free, that it will operate without interruption, that every Backup File can be read, or that the data it shows, exports or copies is complete and correct. See section 7.3 and 7.4.
12. Limitation of liability
12.1 To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law SQLTreeo is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, loss of profit, business interruption, or the cost of restoring systems or data, arising out of or related to the Software or this Agreement, even if SQLTreeo has been advised of the possibility of such damages. 12.2 SQLTreeo’s total liability under or in connection with this Agreement is limited to the amount you paid for the Software in the twelve (12) months preceding the event that gave rise to the claim. 12.3 Nothing in this Agreement limits liability for intent or wilful recklessness of SQLTreeo or its management, or any other liability that cannot be limited under applicable law. The liability provisions of the General Terms apply in addition to this section.
13. Termination
13.1 This Agreement is effective until it is terminated. It terminates automatically if you breach any of its terms. SQLTreeo may in that case also deactivate your License Key without refund. 13.2 On termination you must stop using the Software and delete all copies, except that the free features of the Software may continue to be used under this Agreement as long as no breach continues. 13.3 Sections 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 15 survive termination.
14. General Terms and consumers
14.1 The General Terms apply to the purchase of a License Key and to all agreements between you and SQLTreeo. In the event of a conflict between the General Terms and this Agreement, this Agreement prevails with respect to the use of the Software. 14.2 If you are a consumer, nothing in this Agreement limits the rights you have under mandatory consumer protection law, including any statutory right of withdrawal.
15. Governing law and disputes
This Agreement is governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Disputes will be submitted to the competent court in the Netherlands as set out in the General Terms, without prejudice to mandatory rules on jurisdiction that apply to consumers.
