Install Virtual Folders on SSMS v20

Install the Virtual Folders add-in in SQL Server Management Studio 20.

Make sure you unblock the downloaded zipfile before extracting. The AddIn will not work if this step is skipped!

After you have downloaded the ZIP file VirtualFolders.zip you can unzip it into the SSMS Extensions folder.

How to Install Virtual Folders

Typically SQL Server Management Studio v20 is installed in this folder:

*C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 20*

The folder structure can look like this;

If there is no Extensions folder you can safely create it.
Under the different subfolders of C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 20\Common7 you might find other Extensions folders. You should ignore that.

Extract the VirtualFolders.zip in the Extensions folder so that the Extensions folder looks like this:

It is possible that you have more extensions installed and your folder looks different. Our focus is only on VirtualFolders. The VirtualFolders folder looks like this:

If it looks different, delete the folder and extract the zip file again.
