Today is the first day when we turned SQLTreeo into a commercial product and your emails continue to flood into our mailbox, with the overall message that you don’t like price. We are listening and we want to respond. SQLTreeo is not an entirely business-driven project and we are able to change the price, and we have. Check our website for the new one. Thanks for all your feedback and we hope you will like the new pricing.

Although this is a good step, it’s still unacceptable to me that a free application suddenly changes to a 50 euro application with no minor improvements. So I’ll stick at the free version (works fine for me)
I’m in the same boat here. If new features were released (Colored folders, smart folders, quick find, local property storage), I could see paying up to $25 for this. However, moving from a free product to a 50 euro product without any notable changes is hard to swallow.
My advice: Continue the freeware nature of the product until you can legitimately make a case for charging. At that point, if major changes have been made, I’d highly consider a $25 (or equiv euro) price point.
I’m a lot happier with the 50 euro price, granted I’d agree it probably should be a little cheaper than that even. It’s certainly a lot better than 100 euros. But I do think the developers need to be paid for their work. I’m happy to see the continued support for SQLTreeo in any case. I look forward to seeing local storage support added.
I am delighted to see SQLTreeo resurrected, and I can understand why this has to be a commercial enterprise.
SQLTreeo has the capacity to fulfil a long-established need and could be a great productivity tool. It is not yet, however, worth 50 Euro because it is unfinished.
It seems to me that 50 Euro is beyond the threshhold for someone to buy for a little convenience. 10 or 15 Euro, perhaps, but even 25 is high. Someone seeing the high price-tag is less likely to try it and see how useful it is because they know that they don’t want to (or are unable to) pay that money.
To be worth that sort of price tag it should at least have:
(a) local storage of properties
(b) project-oriented tree: ie folders that can contain all the items for a project – tables, views, diagrams, procedures, etc. (it may be that these are “pointers”).
This last one is what (in my mind) will differentiate a “free” (or almost free) add-in from a commercial tool.
So … what about 2 versions – the current version which remains free, and the “pro” version at 50 Euro that has the features (a) and (b) above that are particularly useful in larger set-ups ?
John
Hi John,
thanks for feedback.
Both features you’ve mentioned are in our roadmap. Local storage is almost done and will be released till the end of the year, of course within current price and as free upgrade. Regarding project oriented tree – we will do it only if there will be continuous commercial demand for SQLTreeo, it’s simply too much work.
Another feature we have in our roadmap is rapid search described here (see video at the end of the post). Not sure whether we include it will be integral part of SQLTreeo Add-In.
Regarding price – please keep in mind that we haven’t limited license fee for any time period, it lifetime. It means that you will receive any upgrades for free.

Hi there,
I just want to say that I quite enjoy the product as-is but I very much look forward to the local storage. It’s essential to my environment as I don’t have alter access to all DBs.
Regarding the price, I understand the lifetime model, but even so, I’d rather spend $25 every few years than 50Euro for a product that may not continue past it’s next release. I have to echo the comments above, $25 is a much easier price to swallow for a small convenience.
That’s my 2c,
Mark
Sorry for my bad english.
My friend, you said: “we haven’t limited license fee for any time period, it lifetime”, but who guarantees it? Suddenly you began to take money for your software. Who guarantees what you don’t change license type? Nobody.
Hi,
you probably missed development phases of this product (described in blog in this web). SQLTreeo was free hobby tool maintained by individual. We bought this tool for money, because we believe that it make business sense to keep it running. We are giving it our time and money, that’s why it’s now commercial.
If you buy any Red Gate or Microsoft product, nobody will guarantee that next versions will have same price or same licence model. You buy what is currently offerred for its price. SQLTreeo costs 50 EUR, for that, you will receive version which will work without us for lifetime. That’s what we offer. We can change licence type, we can change price, we can even start giving it for free, that’s our right. None of this changes will affect your lifetime licence and downloaded installer.
If 50 EUR is simply too much for you, SQLTreeo is probably not for you. SQLTreeo was intended to people who use SSMS on daily basis and deal with hundreds of SQL objects. SQLTreeo have great ROI for these poeple for 50 EUR. IF you use SSMS occasionally, SQLTreeo is probably not for you as it has not as good ROI.
Thanks for feedback
SQLTreeo
Hi.
I wish you success in your enterprise, but you have priced this product out of my range. Like others, I would seriously consider spending $25 US for this product every few years, but not €50 for lifetime.
Thanks,
George
I understand Treeo is now commercial (we all need to make a living!). Like others, I do think €50 is too much given its functionality – but the market will drive you to drop the cost if indeed it is too high.
HOWEVER I was shocked to discover this morning that I can no longer use my older version of Treeo that I had gotten while it was still free. When I start SSMS I get a friendly message that the current version of Treeo is obsolote, and I need to download the latest version. Rendering an installed version useless for no reason is poor business practices! I could understand if it was disabled due to a change in SSMS version or OS. However disabling it just because newer versions are available is unacceptable. It certainly makes me question whether the current will truly be “lifetime”.
Your comment is rude. We didn’t block anything and didn’t fool anybody and not planning to do that.
“Obsolete version” message was originally implemented in free version by Jakub to avoid supporting various old versions. It was implemented as time lock to force users to download new version if it’s available.
Jakub sent free lifetime licence to anybody who donated any amout to him during SQLTreeo was free. If you didn’t receive email from Jakub, you either didn’t donate any amount or Jakub made a mistake.
We removed “obsolete message” from SQLTreeo, fixed bugs, implemented SQL 2012 support, made 14-day trial and lifetime paid version. We don’t care about versions which are circulating around the web, we didn’t released them and we are not maintaining them.
I understand that many people like free software more than paid but there is some limit in what’s sensible feedback and what’s not.
Love the add-in. Will pay $19.99.
I just discovered both this product and the “Handy Groupie” one. I’m getting ready to try both, but could someone who’s tried both let me know some basic differences, either in features or stability? Thanks.
Hi,
it was discussed on previous post. Here is short comparision with Handie Groupe:
- they don’t have SQL Server 2012 support – we have
- they don’t have possibility for nesting folders – we have
- they don’t have drag&drop in the tree – we have
- their price (65 usd) is only for one year of support&upgrades – we have lifetime licence

Thanks for the difference breakdown!
a good Product. but the price is really to high. I would pay somthing around 9,99 € for a license.
